Ice Box Canyon trail ends at a waterfall that cascades over the immense rocks and gathers in small pools below. The trail is closed for 24 hours following every rainstorm. If you’re up to the challenge it’s worth the effort. If you want to do some serious rock climbing then you’ll have to get a permit to use ropes and other equipment. Sandstone is a soft rock that crumbles very easily and only experienced climbers are allowed to scale these walls. Bicycles are allowed on the paved and unpaved roads. All the bicyclists must follow the same laws as drivers do while riding on paved roads. Horseback riding is restricted to the dirt roads and some of the hiking trails. Horseback riding is prohibited on paved roads except to cross them.

The Lake Mead National Recreation Area encompasses over 1.5 million acres. Its huge lakes attract boaters, swimmers, fisherman and everyone who enjoys lying on the beach to catch some sun. Lake Mead is open year round but locals will tell you the best time to go is in the summer when it’s hot. Some of the best fishing in the country can be found at Lake Mead and Mohave Lake both of which offer a wide array of fish.
