Green BuildingPower companies are developing new ways to generate power without polluting the earth. On April 13, 2006 Nevada Power publicly announced its newest Photovoltaic Energy System. The system will provide up to 30% more energy then older photovoltaic panels that don’t follow the path of the sun as it travels across the sky. Old systems were stationary and could only absorb energy for limited amounts of time. The new, moving panels concentrate the sun’s energy and focus it on the photovoltaic cells. The cells produce energy as long as light shines on them and they don’t pollute the environment or make noise. Photovoltaic energy is the safest and cleanest way to generate power. We are fortunate to live in a place when there is so much sunshine and renewable energy. Solar Panels have already been installed in some schools in Clark County and there are plans to install even more very soon. Nevada Power customers and Sierra Pacific Power have a net-metering program. The program allows people to set up solar panels or to utilize other forms of renewable power on their own. Today, it is more important than ever for everybody to participate in protecting the environment. |
