Green BuildingElectricity generated from renewable resources is called green power. Power generation that produces a lot of pollution is called brown power. Traditional electricity generators are less environmentally friendly than solar, wind, small hydro, biomass, and geothermal generators. Green power doesn’t produce any radioactive waste or air pollution and it is recycled naturally by the earth. Brown power is the biggest source of the air pollution that leads to smog and acid rain. 50,000 people die every year in the United States from illnesses related to the air pollution produced by burning fossil fuels. Renewable building materials are cost-efficient and made from fully or partially recycled content. The idea is to use as little energy as possible and to reduce the amount of pollution and wasted material. Some chemicals used to manufacture traditional building materials can have a negative effect on people’s health. Certain types of adhesives, flooring and insulation can pose a serious health threat in some instances. People should also avoid the use of toxic outdoor chemicals such as pesticides and certain fertilizers. It is always better to use organic materials in your yard. |
