Downtown Gentrification
Manhatanization is a term describing vertical growth in a city. Las Vegas is currently experiencing extensive vertical growth as a result of the many high-rise apartments and condos now under construction. These high-rise towers will accommodate many more people on smaller tracts of land than single-family homes. Soho Lofts was completed in May of 2006. It is one of the smaller towers with only 15 stories and 355 units. Newport Lofts will stand 23 stories tall with 168 units. Streamline Condos will offer 275 units in 21 stories and Urban Lofts will be located in three different areas of town with a total of 195 units. People are starting to move out of the rural suburbs and back into the heart of the city. Living closer to the Strip is more convenient for many, especially those who work downtown. The airport is close by and there are shopping centers, movie theatres and casinos all over the area. Everything one needs or wants is conveniently close at hand.
