Culture in Southern Nevada

Southern Nevada might not be seen as offering a rich and refined culture but it’s undeniably one of the most diverse. In a town where you can visit such exotic sites as Paris, ancient Egypt, and Venice all in one day, its diversity is staggering. Las Vegas is certainly one of the world’s great tourist attractions, but more and more often people are also finding it to be an ideal place to live.

While gaming and tourism are the primary moneymakers in the city, gambling is certainly not the only source of amusement. Casinos generate most of the stage entertainment, the Strip is home to some of the most elaborate theatres in the world and many of the biggest shows on Broadway make their way to the bright lights of Las Vegas Boulevard. Lavish auditoriums have been built for such stars as Celine Dion, Elton John, and David Copperfield. Crowds of people travel from all over the world to witness the unbelievable acrobatics performed in Mystere at Treasure Island, Zumanity at New York New York, and O at the Bellagio. All three shows are presented by the famous Cirque du Soleil.

These contemporary circuses are some of the most popular attractions in the city. But the Blue Man Group also ranks as one of the most popular shows on the Strip. The group started in New York in the 80’s, then spread to Boston, Chicago before finally opening in Las Vegas. Powerful musical sequences and special effects permeate their unique performances. Though many of the shows on the strip are too mature for young children, the Blue Man Group is perfect for the whole family.
